Defending the Freedom to Inform

Press Freedom

A free and independent press is the cornerstone of every democratic society. The Ghana Journalists Association (GJA) is committed to protecting press freedom and ensuring that journalists can carry out their work without fear, intimidation, censorship, or undue interference.

The Association advocates for an enabling media environment where journalists can report responsibly, hold institutions accountable, and provide citizens with timely, accurate, and credible information. Through public advocacy, engagement with stakeholders, and support for journalists facing threats, the GJA continues to champion the constitutional right to freedom of expression and media independence.

Promoting Integrity in Journalism

Ethical Journalism

Ethics are the foundation of credible journalism. The Ghana Journalists Association promotes the highest standards of professional conduct by encouraging journalists to report with accuracy, fairness, impartiality, accountability, and respect for human dignity.

Guided by the GJA Code of Ethics, the Association supports responsible journalism that builds public trust and contributes positively to society. We encourage continuous reflection on ethical standards while responding to the evolving challenges of digital and multimedia journalism.

Celebrating Excellence in Journalism

GJA AWARDS

The GJA Awards recognise outstanding achievements in journalism and honour media professionals whose work demonstrates excellence, integrity, innovation, and public service.

Each year, the awards celebrate exceptional reporting across multiple categories while inspiring journalists to uphold the highest standards of professionalism and ethical journalism. The awards remain one of Ghana’s most prestigious recognitions for excellence in the media industry.
